About the 2023-24 Design and Build Competition-
This year’s theme was “Land Art: Celestial Architecture,” and submissions needed to address the challenge of designing a land art or architectural installation informed by a celestial body or bodies (planets, galaxies, stars, comets, meteors, etc.). The design was required to utilize architecture, landscape architecture, and/or sculpture/installation as a solution while considering environmental impact and sustainability in the use of materials. Furthermore, the design had to relate to the selected site in some way and primarily utilize materials native to the chosen location. Contestants’ designs needed to respond with their conceptual project under the premise that the structure would be utilized by the general public in a publicly accessible setting.
