These bronze totems, created by emerging artists in the Design and Build program, explore themes of identity, spirituality, and social commentary. Using the lost wax casting method, each artist contributed a unique sculptural expression to this fourth bronze installation. Look to the east fenceline of Marjorie Park to see bronze finials from past program participants.

Kayli Cottonwood Title: Horse Fly Description: “Horse Fly” is in ode to Lewis Carrol’s original illustration of the Horse Fly from Through the Looking Glass, this ornament adorns the garden. Rejoicing in the magics of storytelling that influences the creative journey in people of all ages. Kayli Cottonwood is an interdisciplinary artist originating from Denver whose practice focuses on the intersections of ecological research, climate psychology and conceptual visual arts. Caroline Boyd Title: Ethereal Gate Description: Ethereal Gate is inspired by whimsical iron gates, as well as other worldly portals and passageways. The sculpture merges organic curves with geometry, creating a form that feels both ancient and playful. Nestled in a garden, it becomes a threshold between the cultivated and the wild, the seen and the unseen. Social Media: IG @caroline.boyd

OJ Johnson Title: Beebles Bathhouse Description: OJ Johnson is a metalsmith and sculptor from Boise Idaho. Their passion lies in making playful forms and adornments rooted in memory. In their piece, Beebles Bathhouse they are highlighting the surrounding Colorado landscape by incorporating natural elements into a structure serving the pollinators of the MOA garden. With collected wood from the Rye desert and Japanese beetles found in the city, they have created a series of pools to invite visitors to take a dip. Social Media: @o.j.johnson_ and ojjohnson.com

Emma Cayer Title: Cadence Description: Cadence is an abstract bronze totem that captures the rhythm of movement and sound through sculptural form. Its flowing, looping shapes suggest a visual beat—like a phrase of music suspended in space. A movable ring adds an interactive layer, inviting subtle play and engagement with the piece’s rhythm. This piece works to combine Emma Cayer’s background in music and drive to push the boundaries of form and interaction in art. Social Media: @cayer_emma

Mia Martin Title: Low-Poly Tea Party Description: Mia Martin is an artist and designer that explores the combination of creativity and technology by using CAD as a core part of her process. This allows her to blend precision with imagination while creating digital structures and experimental objects. Low-Poly Tea Party combines this year’s theme with MOA’s love for Alice in Wonderland as it reinterprets the Mad Hatter’s tea party, rendered in sharp, angular low-polygon forms. Bugzy Richards Title: Kiss Description: This work explores the tension and intimacy between two abstract forms as they converge to create a fleeting, tender moment. Separated, each form loses its meaning; only in union does the piece come alive. The kiss, captured in bronze, becomes a lasting symbol of a moment that is inherently transient. The piece seeks to evoke the emotional weight of connection and the fragility of impermanence. Buzgy Richards is a multimedia sculptor and performance artist based in Manchester, New Hampshire. Their practice centers on materiality, gesture, and the interplay between physical form and emotional resonance. Social Media:@bugzy_richards

Eloise Harcourt Title: Pelvic Flora Description: Eloise Harcourt is an artist born and raised in New York City who works primarily in sculpture and interactive media. Her practice centers the body as both a politically contested object and an intimate, internal biological experience. She is interested in the tension between what is seen and what is felt—how the body becomes a site of both social projection and personal memory. Pelvic Flora explores the nature of the pelvis: a deeply personal structure that holds a multitude of histories. The piece reimagines this biological architecture not as a mere vessel, but as an independent, empowered being. Botanical forms emerge from its contours, growth jutting out in every direction. Design and Build 2025- Tessellation in Bloom

Seven emerging artist interns came together over the summer, through our annual Design and Build Summer Internship Program, to collaboratively create several unique, site-specific installations for MOA’s Marjorie Park in only 8 weeks! Emerging artists worked under the direction of our 2025 Artist Fellow, Erica Rawson, and Resource Artist, Walter Ware, with additional assistance by Oliver Cruz.

The theme provided to the artists in 2025 was “sacred geometry: platonic solids.” Installations will be on temporary view through winter of 2025.

The creation of our 2025 projects were generously supported through a facilities partnership with the University of Colorado Denver, College of Arts and Media and Metropolitan State University of Denver. Artworks were created within the sculpture fabrication studios on Auraria campus.
