About Kristine Smock

Kristine Smock is both a painter and sculptor, who has lived and worked in Colorado for over the past twenty years. She works in such mediums as clay, steel, bronze, concrete, and recycled mixed media materials. Many of her sculptures explore the notion of movement, and find new shape through the application of springs, hinges, spindles, and gears. Smock says, “I am drawn to found objects. I like to use cast off items in my pieces to see if it is possible to transform them into something else. I enjoy recycling while I work and hope that the pieces are humorous and beautiful. I like to see what happens when I turn things upside down and shake things a bit. I am constantly tempted to try new ideas, mediums, and techniques. I’ve always wanted to make large concrete and mosaic forms, especially after numerous trips to Mexico, France, and Italy. My inspiration comes from spiritual art figures found in the churches, ancient architectural ruins, animals forms, human relations, and the natural world around me.”
