Unseen Creature

Unseen Creature
2022
Steel, sticks, mirror, glass, twine, paint
Created Collaboratively

A mysterious creature builds a hoard-like nest in this Cupola, reminiscent of a nest that exists above the stage each year at Fiddler’s Green. This nest proudly displays all of the shiny treasures the creature found and invites you to discover the wonders collected within its home.

Its tornado shape supported by a steel structure extends beyond the cupola and offers an organic rendering of a colorful hideaway. The reflective components compliment the circular shape of the site while multiplying the wonders that draw the audience within the lit installation.

Eight emerging artist interns came together over the summer, through our annual Design and Build Summer Internship Program, to collaboratively create several unique, site-specific installations for MOA’s Marjorie Park in only 8 weeks! Emerging artists worked under the direction of our 2022 Artist Fellow, Scottie Burgess, and Resource Artist, Walter Ware, with additional support from Reece Bailey.

The theme provided to the artists in 2022 was “curiosities.” Join us for the opening reception to see these unique installations throughout Marjorie Park.

The creation of our 2022 projects were generously supported through a facilities partnership with the University of Colorado Denver, College of Arts and Media and Metropolitan State University of Denver. Artworks were created within the sculpture fabrication studios on Auraria campus.
