About the Artist
“I am a visual artist, photographer, and printmaker interested in exploring the natural world and feelings of connection to it. My background in field research and science communication grounds my artistic work with an observational approach. The devoted naturalist in me is happiest and most creative when I chance upon nature’s most remarkable forms, patterns, and behaviors. My process begins the moment I catch that rare glimpse into a vernal pool or hear the competing calls of owls at night, and follows with various visual storytelling practices. This allows me to document my experiences while also serving as a vehicle to keep asking questions and to continually learn. It is especially exciting when I get to collaborate with others and witness their own glimpses into the natural world. I find great community in shared curiosity. I want to explore what, in nature, is capturing the attention of myself and others and what, in us, is looking back.”
“Having worked for the California Academy of Sciences, the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, the Marine Mammal Center, the Morro Bay National Estuary Program, Estación del Mar Cortés, and the Golden Gate Audubon, I am now a full-time artist based in Colorado. Select exhibitions and awards include Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts and Agriculture: Artist-in-Residence, Museum of Outdoor Arts Mural Program: Artist, The Spectrum Space at The Hague: Selected Artist, and Marin Society of Artists National Juried Exhibit: Selected Artist. Select art and design clients include NOAA, National Public Radio, the National Science Foundation, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, CA State Parks, The Ocean Exploration Trust, and the National Audubon Society.”
