Design and Build Summer 2024 Internship

This is a paid internship program for the undergraduate and graduate bound level.

Artist Reception: August 3, 2024, 5:00-8:00pm*
Daily Schedule: Approximately 35 hours per week. Mon-Fri, 9:30am-5pm.

*Some outside time may be required as necessary. Participants should be available for the duration of the program.

MOA is excited to partner with the College of Arts & Media (CAM) at the University of Colorado Denver to host the 2024 summer internship at their sculpture lab studio located on their campus in the heart of Denver, Colorado. MOA is seeking up to 8 interns for summer of 2024 (June 10 – Aug 3) to work under the direction of our Design and Build Fellow Artist, Charles Levesque and Resource Artist and Sculpture Lab Manager, Walter Ware. The 2024 project includes collaboratively creating temporary outdoor artwork(s) for MOA’s outdoor sculpture park, Marjorie Park, located just south of Denver in Greenwood Village at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. MOA will host an artist reception at the park and the artwork(s) will be on public view for up to one-year.

From concept development, proposal review, materials procurement, timeline and budget management, to fabrication and installation, this intensive 8-week program will provide interns the opportunity to participate completely in the art making process. Participants will be working at the CAM sculpture studio and all materials and tools will be provided.

Required Qualifications:
Ideal candidates for this program should have a good understanding of or be enrolled in programs such as painting, drawing, sculpture, wood working, carpentry, furniture design, industrial design, installation art, engineering, electronic engineering, or other creative programs. The program seeks to blend skillsets amongst participants to create a dynamic team and final project.

Preferred Qualifications:
• MOA seeks well rounded, mature individuals with a high degree of professionalism who can bring several skills to the program.
• Applicants must work well in a team environment as this program is highly collaborative.
•Open to undergrads, graduate bound and emerging artists (Recent graduates within 1 year of graduation are eligible to apply).

Compensation and Optional Credit:
•A $5,250 stipend will be provided to all participants.
•An additional $300 stipend will be provided for parking/public transit expenses.
•All CU Denver students need to have a learning agreement on file with the Experiential Learning Center prior to beginning the internship, regardless of for-credit or not-for-credit.
•CU Denver students will have the option to take the class (ARTS 4939) for credit (3 credits) or complete the internship not for credit.
•Non-CU affiliated students will be able to apply and participate but will not receive support from the CU Denver ELC team. They should work through their home institution if seeking internship credit.

Additional Information:
•As the program is taking place on the CU Denver campus in 2024, all participants must comply with the current CU Denver COVID-19 Campus Protocols in order to participate.
•Housing is NOT provided to participants from outside the Denver area, however, for the 2024 program reduced cost, on-campus housing is open to participating interns through the campus department of housing, and is subject to availability. Participants must arrange their own housing through the CU Denver department of housing.
