About the Exhibition:
VIEWFINDERS is a large-scale photography exhibition featuring more than 100 works by historic and contemporary artists, including 22 rare Edward S. Curtis photogravures on loan from the Denver Public Library. The exhibition opens August 14, 2026 at MOA’s Madden Gallery in Greenwood Village and remains on view through October 23, 2026.

Presented as part of MOA’s 2026 Americana-themed programming commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence and the 150th anniversary of Colorado statehood, VIEWFINDERS explores the evolving visual identity of the American West through photography spanning more than a century.

In addition to photography, VIEWFINDERS will feature antique cameras displayed as sculptural objects throughout the gallery, further exploring the history of image-making and visual storytelling.

Featured Artists:
The exhibition features nine contemporary fine-art photographers whose work explores the landscapes, mythology, and visual identity of Colorado and the American West. Among them are Andrew Beckham and Edie Winograde, both represented in the permanent collection of the Denver Art Museum. Beckham’s dramatic black-and-white photographs capture rarely seen Colorado alpine terrain through vertically composed panoramic imagery, while Winograde presents painterly color landscapes from her new series Still Prairie.

Additional featured artists include Lars Leber and Candayce Abney, whose still and time-lapse photography document Colorado night skies, the Milky Way, and the aurora borealis; and David Yarrow, whose large-format black-and-white works photographed in Telluride and Durango revisit iconic imagery of the American West through depictions of railroads and bison.

The exhibition also includes whimsical color photographs of Lakeside Amusement Park by Diane Allison, striking black-and-white images by Roger Good documenting remnants of Americana across more than 140 Colorado towns, and large-scale concert photography by Heather Longway, whose work capturing performances at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre for more than two decades will extend beyond the gallery into installations along Marjorie Park.

About Madden Gallery at the Museum of Outdoor Arts

Madden Gallery is located at 6363 S. Fiddler’s Green Circle in Greenwood Village, CO within Palazzo Verdi, just steps away from MOA’s Marjorie Park at the Museum of Outdoor Arts. The gallery showcases multiple exhibitions each year, all free and accessible to the public. There is a free parking lot to the west of Palazzo Verdi, in addition to public street parking to the north.

Formerly known as The Madden Museum of Art, the nearly 10,000-square-foot gallery space was founded by MOA Co-Founders John and Marjorie Madden and first opened in October 2008 alongside the debut of Palazzo Verdi, the commercial office building developed by John Madden Company in which it is located. From 2008 to 2013, the space hosted rotating exhibitions. In 2013, MOA Co-Founder and President Cynthia Madden Leitner curated Inspired by Art: The Building of a Legacy, showcasing the collection of her parents, John and Marjorie.

In 2016, Mr. Madden donated 133 works from his and Marjorie’s private collectionto the University of Denver (DU). DU operated the Madden Museum of Art as a hands-on training facility for students until early 2025, when the terms of the gift concluded. MOA has since stepped in to carry forward the Madden legacy through the newly titled Madden Gallery at the Museum of Outdoor Arts, serving as a natural extension of MOA’s offerings just steps away at Marjorie Park and Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre.

With MOA’s 43-year history, including nearly 30 years devoted to temporary indoor gallery exhibitions, we are pleased to once again offer this program to our patrons following a 2-year hiatus.
