Daniel Sprick: Painting Out-of-Doors
March 19, 2016 - July 15, 2016
About the Exhibition
On March 19th, 2016 MOA will open Daniel Sprick: Painting Out-of-Doors, a new exhibition featuring a collection of plein air paintings by renowned Denver based oil painter, Daniel Sprick. The exhibition will premiere during an opening reception from 6 PM to 9 PM in MOA's main gallery on the Second Floor of the Englewood Civic Center at 1000 Englewood Parkway, Englewood, CO. The event will feature light hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and entertainment by acoustic duo, Tin Brother. The opening reception is free and open to the public.
Daniel Sprick: Painting Out-of-Doors features over 50 paintings, which will be on exhibit for the first time. Sprick is best known for the photograph-like quality of his paintings, which are included in personal and institutional collections across the nation
This unique body of work, created specifically for this MOA exhibition, evolved while Sprick was teaching abroad in Italy. He was inspired to create works out-of-doors and continued working with nature as his subject when he returned to the United States. Sprick described the enthusiasm for his new muse with this statement, "I love working outdoors where the light changes so rapidly - every moment is urgent and it holds your attention so completely. You become absorbed in the moment and there isn't a single second to lose".
Daniel Sprick: Painting Out-of-Doors is the first of three exhibitions MOA will host this summer, all of which will focus on the annual theme of Reinvention. "The atypical subject matter represented in this exhibition is a perfect example of how great artists are constantly reinventing their art, along with themselves, in this process of continual self-discovery. In the two years Daniel has been preparing for this exhibition, he has covered vast landscapes from Florence to Big Sur", said MOA Curator and Executive Director, Cynthia Madden Leitner.
In addition to the remarkable new body of work created by Sprick, MOA has collaborated with Colorado Public Television to present the work of filmmakers Joshua Hassel and David Schler, whose current project is an hour-long documentary on Daniel Sprick. The MOA exhibition, Daniel Sprick: Painting Out-of-Doors, will feature a short preview of the program currently in production.
