Autumn in Wonderland
Fall 2016Located at MOA's Marjorie Park
MOA has converted the above pictured Victorian architectural element, located at our Marjorie Park location at Fiddler's Green, to a new art diorama. This new exhibition space is a unique, creative space that will feature seasonal window displays for all to enjoy.
About the Display
"Autumn in Wonderland" by Scott M. Soffa & Benjamin Pound, SMS Studio - Denver CO
Inspired by the work and imagery of Edward Gorey, John Tenniel and Tim Burton this fantasy diorama finds Alice in thoughtful conversation with Absulum in the distance while changing schemes of light bring spooky eyes, The Cheshire Cat and jack-o-lanterns into the foreground.
The original bronze maquette "Alice & The Caterpillar" by Harry Marinsky (1994) is the focal point of the scene. You can view the full scale bronze by Marinsky along with the rest of the "Alice in Wonderland" series in Marjorie Park located just behind the diorama.
What you hear as you view the installation is the complete unabridged book "Alice In Wonderland" as read by Australian actor Cyril Ritchard (1 December 1898 – 18 December 1977) recorded in the late 1960's for Wonderland Records. Additional music on the 6 long playing vinyl album set is by Alec Wilder. The set was packaged for Radio Shack.
This is the first in a series of seasonal displays planned for the new window. Watch a Video of the installation here.
This exhibition is generously supported by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.
