Art AbstractedSally Stockhold, Virginia Maitland, & MOA Design and Build interns
August 3, 2013 - October 19, 2013
Location: Indoor Gallerys
On August 3rd, 2013 MOA will open three new exhibitions in its indoor galleries. All three installations will feature works curated for MOA’s 2013 theme of “abstract”.
MOA’s main gallery and white box gallery will showcase the work of the 2013 Design and Build intern team. Working under the creative guidance of Imagined Creations’ Cory Gilstrap, this team of 12 emerging artists has created a completely unique body of work designed around the abstract environments created by forces of nature. These weather-inspired installations are a whimsical blend of painting and sculpture. Suspended in air, they spiral and twist in the space creating both literal and metaphorical movement.
Art Abstracted will also feature the work of fine art photographer, Sally Stockhold. The exhibition will include a selection of works from the ‘Myselfportraits, Icons and Absurdities’ series in which she personally embodies iconic figures from history in the photographs. Stockhold is represented by Walker Fine Art.
Also opening on August 3rd is an exhibition featuring the vibrant works of Boulder, CO based abstract painter, Virginia Maitland. Maitland’s large-scale, translucent paintings will be on display in the civic center atrium gallery. Maitland is represented by Sandra Phillips Gallery.
The opening reception for all three exhibitions will take place on August 3rd, 2013 from 5 pm – 9 pm at MOA’s indoor galleries located on the second floor of the Englewood Civic Center. The opening reception is free and open to the public. All works will be on display through October 19, 2013.
