Archetype Revival

August 5th - September 23, 2016

MOA's Indoor Gallery

About the Exhibition

The exhibition will commence with an opening reception from 6:00 - 9:00pm at MOA’s indoor gallery headquarters in the Englewood Civic Center, located at 1000 Englewood Pkwy, Englewood, CO 80110. The celebration is open to the public and will include hors d’oeuvres, drinks, music and complimentary gallery admission.

“Archetype Revival” explores ways in which traditional archetypes can be reinvented. The artists utilized classical theater archetypes and experimented with the concept of archetype as prototype. The result is a playful exhibition that makes the viewer ponder what we know about archetypes and how they can change over time. The exhibition was created by nine undergraduate level emerging artists that were selected to participate in MOA’s annual summer Design and Build program under the direction of Master Artist, Cory Gilstrap.

MOA’s Design and Build program operates in two realms, focusing on both temporary outdoor public art and indoor gallery exhibitions. “Emerging artists are provided a theme and collaboratively create a cohesive body of work under the lead of a professional artist in only eight weeks,” said MOA President and Executive Director, Cynthia Madden Leitner. “Participants gain experience in collaboration and in creating commissions and public art.”

2016 marks 25 years of MOA’s signature education program. Colorado Governor, John W. Hickenlooper proclaimed August 5, 2016 as “MOA Design and Build Day” in celebration of advancing creativity and supporting emerging artists. Archetype Revival will be on display through September 23, 2016.
